📣 Queensland Poetry Festival is emerging!

Dear poets and poetry lovers,

We’re excited to announce the revival of the Queensland Poetry Festival for 2022! Due to the recent wave of COVID cases, we’re moving our live dates for ‘Emerge’ to 3-5 June at the Judith Wright Centre in Brisbane.

We'll also have an amazing online program that will kick off on March 21st (International Poetry Day) and run up to the festival in June.

Want more online offerings before then? Keep scrolling to book in for workshops with our Poets in Digital Residence, and to view their latest online poetry readings.

Yours in poetry,
— The QP Team

📣 Queensland Poetry Festival - new date!

After a couple of years hiatus, the Queensland Poetry Festival is back in its live form in 2022. Held from 7-10 April at the Judith Wright Centre, the theme for 2022’s festival will be ‘Emerge’ – speaking not only to the sense of ‘coming through’ the significant challenges of the last few years, but also to the way poetry emerges into the world, and to poets taking those first (tentative, terrifying, courageous) steps into the poetry community.

The full program will be released early in the new year. We look forward to welcoming you.

📣 Workshops with our Poets in Digital Residence

Poetry for the stage! with Laniyuk

For intermediate poets who want to perform or strengthen their performance skills. Bring a poem you’re working on to edit and develop. During this workshop, we’ll look at the editing process, focusing on rhythm and emotional expression, share tips for memorising for a more dynamic performance and will finish with time for questions and a conversation around where to perform and how to develop your career.

BOOK IN NOW for Tuesday, March 8 at 6.30pm AEST.

HOW TO WRITE A POEM with Eileen Myles

I figure the best thing I can offer is a how to class. I will start with a very rudimentary explanation of what a poem is, what language is, why we cling to this simple form, who it’s for, some good examples of poems that to my mind get right to it, what do I mean by it and how we can write one or two right now. And by that I do mean everyone will write two, yes two poems in this very brief class.

BOOK IN NOW for Sunday, February 27 at 11am AEST.
